~128 Leagues Under The Sea~

Play as the intrepid Future Cat, on a quest for wealth with which to feed his family. Boat and Platform around the haunting ruins of civilizations past.  But will he be able to escape with his life!?!?!

This game was made for Sylvie Jam #1, and as such followed the very specific rules that jam mandated. Check out the other entries too!

Controls

  •  R resets the game, in case you get stuck (a very real possibility)
  • M mutes the music, in case you want to appreciate the ambience, or you get sick of it.
  • L disables the wiggly effect NOTE: Apparently the wiggly effect causes a black screen for some people so if that's happening to you, try disabling wiggly
  • The rest is too much to explain, so you'll have to figure it out for yourself!

this has been on my to play list for ages (i guess 2 years if that can be believed!) and really glad to have finally gotten around to it. switching between the 2d / 3d views is pretty magical. lately i've been really taken by games where the navigation feels "fidgety" enough (or perhaps "janky" is the historical term, which i bestow with love!) to allow exploring to hold real doubt as to whether a route is "intended" or not. it leaves me totally absorbed in my own in exploration. all the different angles of approach, the variable upgrades, and the level design captures this feeling so beautifully -- just me, my boat, and a coin glinting in the distance. amazing :)

ah thanks for playing! I really do like that feeling of just, systems and challenges without any idea of developer intention. me arbitrarily scattering delfinos and coins is really my lofi way of doing procgen I guess

This was super cool. I really liked the mechanic of getting off of your boat into a 2d world, though I wish it made your 2d world face straight forward so I could line it up better. I think that's what the "zoom out" powerup was meant to help you with- figuring out how to get a coin that's to your left, but I think I could have preferred trying to line up multiple coins I could see and try to get them all in one go.

I played until I drove off the side of the map. The wiggle effect made my screen render as blank, and when I got to the end screen, it was also blank and the text didn't render. There probably is some more fun lore here but I didn't get to see it. I also enjoyed exploring below the water as a dead cat, plunging into the ever deepening depths. The towers on the horizon and the sinking depths give some nice cthulhu vibes.
