Italian and Spanish Translations added!

Over the last little while, Mirko Cerullo has been translating the game into Italian and Spanish. Those versions are now released, so if those are languages you speak or if you know someone who speaks them, now is the perfect time to give the game a play!

They are available as separate downloads but you can also switch languages on the fly with the 1, 2, and 3 keys. Maybe this fact means it would be good for people trying to learn one of these three languages?

This is the first time I've ever had one of my games translated and it was quite an interesting process! I knew the game would be a little wack to translate because of both my tone of writing, which fluctuates between casual slang, academic gibberish, and poetic, and also because of the numerous Mario and game development related terms.  Mirko handled all of this deftly but some lines required further clarification, which meant I had to actually go back and think about what I had said, which is not usually part of my process.

For example, the line

"even less for us though, is the space for neither cars or people. Out of bounds, value in distance. Less and less all the time as skyboxes are tamed. "

was particularly obtuse, and when I tried to write out what I was thinking more literally and clearly it became a whole paragraph:

"Spaces that aren't designed for either cars or pedestrians are even more foreign to us. These empty spaces that you can find out of bounds have some inherent value in how vast and difficult to traverse they are. But as games exchange backdrops and skyboxes for fully realized worlds (and as the real world has less and less wild uninhabited space), these experiences become harder to come by."

This is useful information for the translator I guess, but is too clunky to use verbatim. Thankfully Mirko seems to have done  a good job condensing these ideas back into what I trust is a smoother and more poetic form:

"Però ancor più alieno è quello spazio che non accoglie né auto né gente. Oltre i confini delle mappe, il valore sta nella distanza percorsa. Via via più alieno mentre si tengono sotto scacco scatole di sfondi."

which apparently translates  roughly to:

"But even more alien is that space that welcomes neither cars nor people. Beyond the boundaries of the maps, value lies in the distance travelled. More and more alien as boxes [full] of backgrounds are tamed".

Anyway, my point is it's been a cool process and that you should play and rate and share my game, regardless of what language you play it in. If you want to ruminate more on translations and videogames there is also a Jacob Geller Video about that.
